Two types of belly fat are Subcutaneous Fat found directly under the skin and Visceral Fat which is the fat that wraps around your internal organs. Visceral fat drives up your risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even dementia according to Rachel Whitmer, PhD, research scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, Calif., Women with a 35” waistline and men with a 40 inch waistline have visceral fat.
That’s nice to know but how do you get rid of this visceral fat? I’m reading articles on this from JAMA, (Journal of American Medical Association), Mayo Clinic and others, and here’s what they suggest:
– Lying on your back on the floor, lift only the legs, as if they’re doing a sit-up instead of your upper body. Press your hands against the floor to resist the urge to lift your shoulders off the floor. To make this exercise more intense, add leg weights. Do between 15 and 20 of these reverse crunches two to three times a day. I’m sure this is a good exercise but you ain’t gonna do it. Exercise at least 60 minutes per day, take a kick boxing class. Again, great idea but it ain’t easy, it ain’t fun and You ain’t gonna do it.
– Eat foods low in saturated fat, high in vegetables and fruits, eat only lean meats and use healthy vegetable oils such as coconut, safflower, sunflower, olive, avocado and grapeseed oils when cooking. Again, it ain’t easy so you won’t do it. Most of us don’t cook anyway. We pick up some, Pizza, Chinese or Olive Garden on the way home. Who has time to cook and I’ll bet the people who write these articles don’t eat 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables a day either.
– More than one study suggested Lap bands and liposuction. This time it’s not a great idea and it ain’t easy, fun or cheap. Fagedabadtit! So what’s the answer?
What if you just drank a couple of fiber-protein shakes between meals?
Remember how we started saying that if you’re overweight and out of shape, you’re probably not going to change unless you can find some kind of plan that’s easy, that’s fun and that doesn’t cost much.
OR, Here’s something you can start right now to tighten your waistline.
Back in the 1950s, Mr. America Reg Parks revealed his secret technique for slimming his waist. He would push his stomach out as far as he could for about 3 seconds then pull his stomach in and up for 5 seconds.
Try this right now
While you’re reading this article. Do just 3 reps. Start doing this while you’re waiting for your coffee to perk, waiting for the microwave, waiting for your toast, sitting at a traffic light, standing at a traffic light, waiting in the checkout line at the grocery store, waiting for an elevator, waiting for your computer to start and while you’re filling your gas tank. Pick three times a day that you can begin doing this simple movement. Start in the morning while you’re brushing your teeth or putting on your make-up.
Try it again. Do 3 more…. See, you’re already on your way.
